I've been writing songs and singing since I was a kid. I started my fascination with electronic music in my late teens. I started constructing noise scapes, being influenced by Throbbing Gristle, Whitehouse and the classic noise makers of the late 70's and early 80's. I grew up with a strong 80's influence from my older sister and learned to love new wave and goth music as a young child. The first tape I ever purchased was The Cure's Fascination Street, after that I was connected to music forever.
As I matured through my 20's I started to write more complicated songs on guitar and various software like Soundforge, Sony Acid, and Audacity. I started to take a painters view of songs. I realized that each song I would write came from it's own space, each song I write is a sphere in my own tree of life. Each song comes from a purely expressive and self-analytical space, artist as guide through the search of the soul.
In my late 20's I started performing in the Twin Cities as Ficshe, I've been gigging for over 3 years now and this has been the most rewarding of all the phases of my musicianhood. My performances come from a place of generation. When I am singing for an audience I feel the charge to open the space to an emotional connection. I take my place an artist and singer seriously for the benefit of the listeners and watchers. I prove by doing this that love is greater than fear, being a solo act has it's own challenges!
As an artist I expose my inner workings, thoughts, and feelings through each song. Personal tales of love, death, solitude, and light thru darkness draw in those needing confirmation to listen. In my own life I have been comforted and empowered by songs that spoke to me at important times in my life, anyone who loves music knows how it feels to be listening to a song and feel that that person is right with you, reiterating your feelings. My music is about validation, my performances are about strength through bliss and fearless exploration of self.
